The 2019 edition of the Monte Carlo Techniques for Medical Applications (MCMA) conference will be held in Montréal next June, jointly with ICCR this year. In my humble opinion, MCMA continues to be one of the, if not the most relevant conference in the field. Abstract submission deadline is now February 15.

“À tous les temps, à tous les peuples”.

“À tous les temps, à tous les peuples”. Member and associated states of the Convention du mètre voted today in favor of the redefinition of the International System of Units (SI), in terms of exact universal constants. A millenary human quest, formulated more precisely 200 years ago during the French revolution. A philosophical dream which reaches beyond the “simple” redefinition of the kilogram.

The change will become effective on 20 May 2019, the anniversary date of the signature of the Convention du mètre in 1875 (and International Metrology Day).

Unfortunately, the critical EGSnrc bug fix announced on 1 March 2017 was incomplete, and in turn caused egs++ applications to crash. A small additional patch was applied on the EGSnrc repository in this regard on 2 March 2017. Thank you to Martin Martinov for reporting this collateral bug.

A critical bug has been uncovered in EGSnrc which causes the electron energy to be offset by the value of the electron rest mass in some EGSnrc applications:

https://github.com/nrc-cnrc/EGSnrc/issues/257

The bug affects versions of EGSnrc downloaded between 3 February 2017 and 1 March 2017, inclusively (for those working off the develop branch, the corrupted date range is 24 January to 1 March).

The repository has been patched as of 1 March 2017. We recommend updating your EGSnrc copy, then re-compiling and re-running any simulation that relied on corrupted source code.

Thank you to Shahid Naqvi for reporting and helping to diagnose this issue.
