Hello everyone

Hello everyone,

I am new to Egs and trying to run a simulation for a specific geometry subject to Co-60 beam using egs++ (tutor 7pp). The results are ok but there are a lot of fluctuations even when running billions of histories. So, I am thinking to use vrt. The available vrt in egs++ are radiative photon splitting, Russian roulette and range rejection.
My question is: for Co 60 beams, is using photon splitting efficient?
Also, what is the best combination of vrt to use, are Russian roulette with photon splitting the best?
Thanks

Hi everyone

Hi everyone,

I am a beginner for MC simulation with EGSnrc and I am doing water phantom measurements for 6MV photon beam using CyberKnife.

Am I getting correct results using DOSXYZnrc in water phantom for 6MV beam?

I used SAD=80cm with 1.5cm build up. How do we compare such results (profiles/depth dose curves) with clinical results? (What kind of conversion (unit) do I need to do? as they use the dose in Gy or cGy. Help appreciated!

[CTCREATE] I need to upload more than 500 dicom files by ctcreate. I changed ctcreate.mortran $CTKMAX value

REPLACE {$CTKMAX} WITH {600} and recompiled ctcreate. However, ctcreate still refuses to load more than 300 files. I am sure that the total number of voxels is under dosxyz limit.

I don’t know if it is a bug or I am just missing something.

I would be grateful for any advice.

I’m trying to make use of the Cavity Positioning uncertainty scoring options in egs_chamber but am pretty confused…

I’m trying to make use of the Cavity Positioning uncertainty scoring options in egs_chamber but am pretty confused right off the bat.

I couldn’t find any posts historically about people using it or struggling with it like me but basically I’m trying something pretty straightforward to begin with. I’m simulating a 10 cm x 10 cm reference field on a chamber model in phantom. I’m starting only with isocenter positioning uncertainty and a uniform translational distribution of 1 mm in the Z direction only.

I started out with the positions per sample (N) locked at 2 and am trying to vary the ncase per position (M) to get a sense of its impact on efficiency. Looking at Bouchard’s paper (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21454927), it looks like the efficiency should be optimized by determining an optimal M first and then using that M in conjunction with varying N values to figure out a final set of parameters for the simulation.

My issue is that my efficiency indicators start out extremely high even at very low numbers of ncase per position (like 5E35) and then increases to some degree by several orders of magnitude and finally hits infinity. The efficiency results are often coupled with errors about there not being enough samples for positioning uncertainty estimates.

I believe it’s possible that I’m just doing something wrong but I thought that starting out this way to get familiar with the optimization process would be a bit more straightforward. I tried running the example input file under the cavity positioning uncertainty explanation in the documentation but it crashes .

Can anyone possibly point me in the right direction? Thanks!
